Sound Design Research

Sound Design:

With sound design, to make weird organic sounding science fiction kind of wounds you can use different ways to create the sound you want. For example, for a squishing sound, the guy in the video used raw chicken, squishing around in barbecue sauce. and for a suction sound he used the sound of him trying to get dog food out of a can.

for the Kung Fu Panda movie, the sound team posted a video on how they recorded "whooshing" sounds. They had a mic on the floor and swung different things around on a piece of string. For example they swung a skirt, a tennis racket and even a harmonica. Last they did something different and they attached a bungee cord to two different walls, then stretched it far back and let go. It made a really cool whooshing sound with an echo.

Ideas for sounds we can use for our sound clip:

For the first scene where there is the huge flying bird, i was thinking that we could have some sort of whooshing sound made by swinging a racket or something accompanied by soft but dramatic music leading into the next scene.

One new term that we learned is a Jump cut. A Jump Cut is when, in film or television, an abrupt "jump" from one scene to another.

After everyone was finished presenting (presentations took three lessons to finish) we worked on filming and editing our music video. For our group, i stayed to edit because i was not there at another time when editing (and i had to contribute my part to the editing process), whilst everybody else continues filming the rest of the scenes that needed to be filmed.

The last lesson (the last lesson before easter break), the majority of the groups including ours thought that we had that class to finish up our videos but Ms. Wong did not know that, that was what we thought and was planning on doing a video screening of our music video's. So, ending up, she let us have that lesson to finish and during the lesson, we finished our music video but did not have time to render the videos so one of us had to return at break to finish the rendering.

Music Video Storyboard

For our music video storyboard, we split the pages up into 4. We each had a page to write. We did this because we had 4 pages total for our storyboard which is too much for one person.

Music Video Brain storming

Going Crazy By Song Ji Eun
AOI - Relationships, drug abuse/gambling addiction, love

Characteristics of K-Pop music videos:
- longer cuts
- story plots
- sad mood
- dialog
- stalker shots

Ideas:
Idea one:
A couple, the guy has a addiction to gambling or drugs, the girl is trying to get him away from it, they fight/abuse, she wants to leave, he doesn't let her, [he kills her].

Idea two:
Stalker guy - stalking the girl, then the girl gets random txts, emails, phone calls etc...
He kidnaps the girl
put a knife to her face....
OPEN ENDING

Idea three:
Complicated relationship
guy is really nice to her
guy finds out girl is cheating on him
the guy goes crazy, hangs himself
she goes crazy once she finds out he is dead
hangs herself as well

Idea chosen: Idea number two.

Today in class, we came up with ideas on what our music video was going to be on. This class i found was fun because i got to work with people i don't normally work with and had lots of fun doing so when all our ideas came pouring out. I think that the music video that we are going to make is going to be awesome!!

This is the song we are using:

Universal music videos:
American music videos are mostly portraying story lines and relationships.

First Class Editing

Last class, we edited our short film. For some of the lesson, another group asked my to go and help them film a part since they were an all guy group and they needed a girl. So for the first part of the lesson i was up at the 9th floor helping them film the scene. After returning to editing we encountered some difficulties when trying to make a freeze frame at the end of one scene. We also had difficulties when we tried to add titles and credits because we could not find the button which lets us add the credits. In the end, we figured it all out but then when we watched it through from the top, we found that in the middle of the clip, there was a random 'un-rendered' screen came up. Though we didn't have enough time to try and fix that last class, so we have to try and figure it out in tomorrows lesson.
